The verdict

Adelboden-Lenk markets itself as one Bernese Oberland ski region, but skis as five. Chuenisbärgli, Sillerenbühl, Hahnenmoos and Metsch share one lift-linked network; Engstligenalp, Elsigen-Metsch, Tschentenalp and Betelberg each sit on their own cable car or a shuttle bus. The connected core is modest and gentle, mostly below 2,200 m, and hosts the Chuenisbärgli World Cup giant slalom every January.123

Goes well for

  • Intermediates who want long, easy cruising: skiresort.info measures 80 of the connected core's 86 km as easy or intermediate
  • Families, with a dedicated Vogellisi fun park, a snow kids park at Elsigenalp and sledging at Tschentenalp
  • Visitors timing a trip around the Chuenisbärgli World Cup giant slalom each January

Goes badly for

  • Experts hunting steep on-piste terrain: skiresort.info measures only 6 km of difficult piste in the connected core
  • Skiers who want one big connected mountain: Engstligenalp, Elsigen-Metsch, Tschentenalp and Betelberg each need their own cable car or a bus, not a piste
  • High-altitude snow security: the connected network tops out at 2,200 m with no glacier

Key facts

Every card opens. The headline number is the answer; underneath is how it was measured and where it came from.

BAL AG's own fact sheet gives 1,075–2,200 m for the whole combined-ticket area, which includes Betelberg; the lower figure is Lenk village. Our own routing graph measures a near-identical 1,072–2,194 m for the piste-connected core alone. skiresort.info measures a narrower 1,260–2,200 m for the same four-sector core, most likely using each sector's lift base rather than the lowest run-out.

Marketed vs measuredAdelboden-Lenk's own fact sheet markets 159 km across the whole combined ticket: Chuenisbärgli, Sillerenbühl, Hahnenmoos, Metsch and Betelberg. Betelberg is not reached by piste from the rest of the area. It is Lenk's separate local hill, reached from the main network by a scheduled shuttle bus, and our routing graph finds no ski edge joining it to anything else. This page's figures cover the piste-connected core alone: Chuenisbärgli, Sillerenbühl, Hahnenmoos and Metsch. That is also how skiresort.info scopes its own 86 km measurement of the same four sectors, close to our own measured 83.3 km. Engstligenalp, Elsigen-Metsch and Tschentenalp are separate again, each on its own cable car; see Nearby.

BAL AG's own fact sheet counts 37 transport installations plus 19 unnamed beginner and practice lifts across the whole combined-ticket area, which also includes Betelberg's lifts and the separate Engstligenalp, Elsigen-Metsch and Tschentenalp cable cars.3

Adelboden-Lenk uses dynamic pricing for day and multi-day tickets: the earlier a ticket is booked, the lower the price, and prices never fall closer to the date. There is no fixed day price. CHF 50 was the lowest advertised floor for an adult day ticket for the 2026/27 season, as booked ahead in September 2026; walk-up and peak-week prices run well above it.

Adelboden is reached from Spiez via Frutigen; the main Silleren car park (P1) is signposted from Adelboden Oey. Lenk is reached via the A6 motorway to Zweisimmen and then Route 11 up the Simmental to the Betelberg valley station. Adelboden and Lenk sit in separate side valleys, and the road between them is long enough that the operator and locals both treat travel between the Betelberg and Metsch sides as a shuttle-bus trip rather than a drive.

The mountain

These figures come from measuring the resort's actual piste and lift network rather than from its brochure. Measured from the SkiAllDay routing graph on 17 September 2026. Where the resort publishes a figure of its own, that figure is the one shown.

Piste km per lift km

1.98

Piste km opened by each kilometre of lift line. It measures how sparse the lift network is, not how good it is: a high figure means long runs off few lifts, so more skiing between rides but more traversing and more people funnelled onto each lift; a low one means dense lift service, quick laps and short waits, at the cost of repeating the same runs.

Guide

The connected core splits into two halves that meet at Sillerenbühl and Geils: Chuenisbärgli above Adelboden, and Hahnenmoos-Metsch stretching east toward Lenk. Betelberg, Engstligenalp, Elsigen-Metsch and Tschentenalp sit outside this network and each need their own lift or a bus; see Nearby for what they offer.

For beginners

Adelboden-Lenk is an easy resort to learn in. skiresort.info grades more than half the connected core's piste as easy, and the Vogellisi slope between Hahnenmoos and Geils is built around eight named beginner features rather than a single practice run. Families with younger children have a second option at the Snow Kids Park on Elsigenalp, reached by its own cable car.21

For intermediates

This is what the resort is built for: wide, groomed reds and blues across Silleren, Hahnenmoos and Metsch. Our own measurement finds a longest continuous descent of 7.9 km and 931 m of vertical without a lift ride. German-language trip reports repeatedly single out Luegli and the Metschstand-to-Geils reds, numbered 44 and 45, as the strongest cruising in the area, worth prioritising over simply circulating on the central blues.78

For experts

On-piste black terrain is limited: skiresort.info measures only 6 km of difficult piste in the connected core. The one exception is the Chuenisbärgli, home to the men's World Cup giant slalom since 1967 and rated among the steepest GS courses on the circuit, with a maximum pitch of 60%. It is often closed to the public for race preparation in the run-up to the January World Cup weekend.910

Cross-country and touring

The Betelberg and Engstligenalp both carry signed cross-country loops, marketed as an alternative to the downhill network with wide alpine views. Engstligenalp, a high plateau reached by its own cable car above Adelboden, is also used into spring by a local instructor for early- and late-season training, once lower sectors have started to deteriorate.18

Snow reliability

The connected core is a modest, mid-altitude area: our own measurement finds a median piste altitude of 1,772 m and no piste above 2,500 m. BAL AG covers around 70% of its pistes with snowmaking, and the operator's own fact sheet gives snow security from December to May at the higher sectors, but the lower runs into Boden and Oey are the first to suffer in a warm spell.5

SkierVerdictWhy
Improving intermediate excellent Wide reds and blues across Silleren, Hahnenmoos and Metsch, with almost all of the measured piste graded easy or intermediate.2
First-timer good The Vogellisi fun park and the Elsigenalp Snow Kids Park give structured beginner terrain rather than one crowded nursery slope.1
Families good Sledging at Tschentenalp, a fondue igloo at Engstligenalp and low, easy-access villages, though the five separate sectors take planning.1
Ski tourers and cross-country skiers fair Engstligenalp and Betelberg both carry marked cross-country loops and touring access, but the connected downhill network itself tops out at 2,200 m.1
Expert on-piste poor Only 6 km of measured difficult piste, concentrated on the Chuenisbärgli race run, which closes for World Cup preparation in January.210

By car

Adelboden is reached from Spiez via Frutigen; the main Silleren car park (P1) is signposted from Adelboden Oey. Lenk is reached via the A6 motorway to Zweisimmen and then Route 11 up the Simmental to the Betelberg valley station. Adelboden and Lenk sit in separate side valleys, and the road between them is long enough that the operator and locals both treat travel between the Betelberg and Metsch sides as a shuttle-bus trip rather than a drive.

By train

Frutigen, on the BLS line from Spiez, is the nearest station for Adelboden, with an onward AFA bus to the village. Zweisimmen, also on the line from Spiez, connects to the MOB railway running the length of the Simmental to Lenk.

  • Chüjerstuba (Raviolihaus)

What skiers say

Gathered from public discussions, last swept 17 September 2026. Every tip links to the thread it came from.

  • On peak mornings, bypass Lavey when its queue builds and lap Luegli instead; one regular reported roughly 30 minutes at Lavey while Luegli was almost empty.13710

A New Year report found queues at Lavey, Luegli, Metschmaad and Hahnenmoos by 09:30 but only about five minutes using single lines; a December 2025 report also found both Lavey and Luegli capped near five minutes, so conditions vary sharply.

  • Be above Adelboden's access lifts before 10:00; a local French-language thread identified Dorfbahn, Sillerenbahn and Chuenisbärgli as the 10:00–12:00 choke points on full days.1415

A 2022 discussion reported an 08:00 start at Oey/Silleren versus 08:30 at Chuenisbärgli; confirm the current seasonal timetable.

  • Do not expect Lavey to empty late: on a February Saturday nearly every chair was still occupied at 16:16, shortly before its reported 16:30 closing time.8

Skiers here were observed using the operating day right to closing, so make cross-resort returns before the final connection rather than waiting for a quiet last hour.

  • Consider late March for quiet piste skiing instead of following the crowd to glacier resorts.16

A forum regular said Adelboden and Betelberg are almost empty with good pistes at that time in many seasons, although the low links and valley runs still warrant a conditions check.

  • Use Oey/P1 for the earliest, simplest start into the full main area; choose Chuenisbärgli/P3 mainly when you intend to ski that sector first.15

The Chuenisbärgli connection joins Silleren at Bergläger, where arriving cabins may already be full, while Oey loads the gondola at its origin.

  • If P1 is full and cars are queuing for P2, divert to P3 at Chuenisbärgli instead of waiting.10

At 11:00 on 27 December 2025, P3 was still more than half empty, its chair had no queue and the Bergläger gondola transfer cost only about four cabins of waiting.

  • Add 5–20 minutes each way for the Reichenbach im Kandertal traffic pinch point, with Saturday morning and Sunday evening the periods most consistently flagged.811

A four-day trip encountered the Reichenbach delay every day, including when the road was not fully blocked.

  • Approaching from the Simmental side, park at the Metschstand gondola rather than driving around to Adelboden.17

A recent snowHeads report found good parking there and no lift queues despite a busy linked-area day; the ten-seat gondola was praised as an efficient people mover.

  • Prioritize Luegli and the Metschstand-to-Geils reds 44 and 45 over simply circulating on the central blues.78

German trip reports repeatedly single out runs 40, 42, 44 and 45, plus the Stand, Luegli and Metschstand sectors, as the strongest piste skiing in the linked area.

  • Ski Guetfläck red 20 once for its quiet natural-snow pitch, but plan the exit rather than expecting quick repeat laps.1116

Its tow has been removed, leaving a flat traverse to blue 25 and the Metsch gondola; a 2024 visitor called it excellent but skied it only once because the return was cumbersome.

  • In fog or flat light, lap Bühlberg blue 35/36, one of the few tree-lined and sheltered parts of the otherwise exposed Hahnenmoos–Metsch terrain.1211

The run is easy but evenly pitched and wide enough for carving; a 2024 report still found useful space there on a busier Sunday.

  • On a warm sunny day, ski Sillerenbühl–Bergläger before about 11:00, then move to upper Höchsthorn/Chuenisbärgli or Luegli.7

A January report found the sunny Silleren descent already braking and bumpy around 11:00 while the upper Höchsthorn and Chuenisbärgli pistes were still skiing well.

  • Before accepting the dynamic online day price, compare the current SBB Snow'n'Rail package.11

For a January 2024 Sunday, the resort price rose from CHF 81 the previous evening to CHF 83 that morning, while Snow'n'Rail cost CHF 71 including the bus; products and discounts can change.

  • For a proper mountain lunch, try the tiny Chüjerstuba, also called Raviolihaus, beside Lavey and order the ravioli rather than defaulting to the Hahnenmoos restaurant.1218

Long-time visitors recommend it, while a 2026 report called Hahnenmoos expensive and unremarkable; Chüjerstuba has very few seats, so small groups and early arrivals fare best.

  • Eat before the noon rush or reserve a well-rated hut rather than relying on Geilsbrüggli as overflow.11

On a January Sunday every preferred hut was full; the fallback meal at Geilsbrüggli was described as a small, mediocre half-chicken for CHF 18.50, with salad another CHF 7.50.

  • Train users bringing lunch should expect to carry the pack or leave only non-valuables near a lift rather than finding a locker or mountaintop grocery.19

Swiss regulars in a 2024 discussion commonly left packs beside lift stations, but one participant had a charger stolen; never leave valuables and avoid the parking lot.

  • Do not use blue 46 from Geils to Bergläger as the default Adelboden return; take Lavey–Aebi–Eselsmoos instead when those links are open.128

Multiple reports describe 46 as a long ski road with counter-climbs, pushing and a short rope tow; if already at Sillerenbühl, red 56 is preferred for reaching Bergläger.

  • Do not plan an early-January visit around skiing the black Chuenisbärgli World Cup piste without checking closures.1016

In the run-up to the 2026 races it was water-injected and closed, although the nearby steep red Chuenis–Bergläger run remained enjoyable and nearly empty early.

  • Before crossing toward Lenk late in the day or in strong wind, check Lavey and every remaining return-lift closing time.10

One January 2026 skier barely caught the final Höchsthorn chair after returning via Lavey and Bergläger; on another day Lavey was completely wind-closed, requiring a different route through Hahnenmoos.

  • Treat the destination as one linked core—Chuenisbärgli, Silleren, Hahnenmoos, Bühlberg and Metsch—plus separate ski areas, not as one continuous piste network.1220

Betelberg, Tschentenalp, Engstligenalp and Elsigen-Metsch require a bus or car transfer and often a lift download, so trying to ski every advertised sector in one day wastes substantial time.

  • Use Betelberg as a quiet morning or half-day, then take the Lenk shuttle to Metsch rather than devoting a strong-skier's entire day to it.2114

A January 2023 skier was alone at the Betelberg gondola at 08:30, left on the 11:36 bus and found the main area much busier; the bus then ran every 30 minutes from 08:36 to 17:17, but verify the current schedule. Tschuggen and Wallegg were considered its most worthwhile runs.

  • Choose Elsigen-Metsch when the linked core is crowded or when you want uninterrupted race-training laps.1715

A recent visitor found at most about 50 cars, near-perfect pistes and only surface lifts after the access cable car; a local instructor uses it for early- and late-season training.

  • Save Engstligenalp for a powder day or late-season skiing when lower sectors are deteriorating.178

Its north-facing bowl can preserve snow and is used for training into May, but it stays cold and shaded early; one February visitor found conditions improving around 10:00.

Nearby and comparable

  • Betelberg (Lenk)

Lenk's own local hill, on the same combined ticket but not joined by piste to the rest of the network. A gondola from Lenk village (rebuilt in 1996) reaches the top; getting from here to the Adelboden-side sectors means a scheduled shuttle bus, not a ski run.

  • Engstligenalp

A high plateau above Adelboden reached by its own cable car (1,407–1,971 m), used for cross-country skiing and, into spring, for early- and late-season training.

  • Elsigen-Metsch

A small area above Frutigen reached by its own cable car up to Elsigenalp at 1,800 m, with only surface lifts above the access lift; quieter than the main network on a busy day.

  • Tschentenalp

Adelboden's home hill, reached by gondola directly from the village centre; family terrain, with a sledging park and no piste link to Chuenisbärgli.

Questions

Is Adelboden-Lenk one connected ski area?

No. Chuenisbärgli, Sillerenbühl, Hahnenmoos and Metsch form one lift-linked network of about 83 km of measured piste. Engstligenalp, Elsigen-Metsch, Tschentenalp and Betelberg are sold on the same ticket but each needs its own cable car, and Betelberg needs a shuttle bus as well.31

How much does an Adelboden-Lenk lift pass cost?

There is no fixed day price. The resort uses dynamic pricing, so the price depends on how far ahead you book: CHF 50 was the lowest advertised adult day-ticket price for the 2026/27 season as of September 2026, with walk-up and peak-week prices well above that.6

Is Adelboden-Lenk good for beginners?

Yes. skiresort.info grades more than half the connected core's piste as easy, and the Vogellisi slope and the Elsigenalp Snow Kids Park give structured, dedicated beginner terrain rather than a single crowded nursery run.21

What is the Chuenisbärgli World Cup piste?

It is Adelboden's men's giant slalom course, part of the World Cup calendar every January since 1967 and rated one of the steepest GS courses on the circuit. It is often closed to the public in the days before the race for course preparation.924

How high is Adelboden-Lenk?

The piste-connected core runs from about 1,075 m to 2,200 m, a modest range by Alpine standards with no glacier. There is no permanent snow above the lifts, so snowmaking covers around 70% of the pistes.5
