Open in SkiAllDayThe verdict
Grimentz-Zinal is the linked ski area of two Val d'Anniviers villages, joined since 2014 by a 3.5 km cable car. Our routing graph measures 68 km of piste in one connected piece, between about 1,400 and 2,900 m, against the 115 km quoted by tourism sites. The day ticket also covers St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin, which have no piste link to it.123456
Goes well for
- Intermediates: skiresort.info grades 58.6 of its 115 km red, and 65% of our measured piste has a gradient between 10 and 30%
- Magic Pass holders, since Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin are all included
- Skiers who want a long uninterrupted descent: our graph finds one of 10.3 km and 1,476 m of vertical
Goes badly for
- Anyone expecting 115 km: the measured connected piste is 68 km, and the operator's own pages give no kilometre total
- Beginners who want to range widely: only a third of the measured piste can be reached from the base on easy runs alone
- Day trips by public transport: the bus from Sierre changes at Vissoie, with one bus about every 45 minutes
Key facts
Every card opens. The headline number is the answer; underneath is how it was measured and where it came from.
Elevation 1,330m vertical · 1,570–2,900 m
| Village | 1,570 m1 |
|---|---|
| Lowest piste | 1,570 m1 |
| Highest lift-served point | 2,900 m1 |
| Vertical drop | 1,330 m |
Published figures disagree by a few tens of metres: valais.ch gives 1,600-2,900 m, skiinfo.fr 1,570-2,880 m and bergfex 1,670-2,895 m, and the operator's own pages give none. This page uses Grimentz village (1,570 m) as the base and 2,900 m as the top, so the vertical is a derived 1,330 m, the same difference skiresort.info shows. Our routing graph spans 1,393-2,876 m, its lowest point sitting below both villages. Zinal village is at 1,675 m.
Pistes 115km 68.2 km measured from the network
- Easy 26.5km 23%
- Intermediate 58.6km 51%
- Difficult 29.9km 26%
Marketed vs measuredValais Tourisme, skiresort.info, skiinfo.fr and bergfex all quote 115 km, and skiresort.info splits it into 26.5 km easy, 58.6 km intermediate and 29.9 km difficult. The operator's own pages that we could read give no kilometre total at all. Our routing graph finds a single connected sector of 68.2 km of piste, 1,393-2,876 m, with no second sector, so the gap of about 47 km is not explained by a second area sitting outside the graph. It is far larger than the usual difference between a centre-line marketed figure and a graph measurement (Aletsch Arena's is about 19%). Older listings give around 80 km for the same area, and the Val d'Anniviers ticket combines Grimentz-Zinal with St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin, which are not part of this graph. We could not establish which of these the 115 km covers, so the page publishes both figures and leans on neither. The graph holds pistes of Grimentz and Zinal only; Vercorin's pistes appear on the operator's map but not in the measurement.
Lifts 21 3 types in the fleet
- Surface lift, rope tow or carpet 13
- Chairlift 5
- Gondola / cable car 3
Valais Tourisme, bergfex, skiresort.info and skiinfo.fr all count 21 lifts. The type split is skiinfo.fr's grouping of three gondolas and cable cars, five chairlifts and thirteen drag lifts, rope tows and carpets; skiresort.info's own page names two gondolas (Zinal-Sorebois and Sorebois-Espace Weisshorn) but does not label its counts by type, and the Grimentz-Bendolla gondola and the Grimentz-Espace Weisshorn cable car make four large cabin lifts by name, so the split is approximate. The operator's own pages list no lift total.1

These are the operator's 2026/27 prices. The same ticket is valid at Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin. Age bands are by birth year: adult 1963-2001, senior 1962 or earlier (CHF 68), youth 2002-2010, child 2011-2020. Two days cost CHF 135, six days CHF 339, and a beginner card valid only on the beginner lifts costs CHF 45 a day. The online shop discounts passes of two days or more by up to 10% when booked at least 15 days ahead, and gives 15% off for each child or young person accompanied by an adult. skiresort.info still lists CHF 73 for an adult day, which is a season behind the operator.
The mountain
These figures come from measuring the resort's actual piste and lift network rather than from its brochure. Measured from the SkiAllDay routing graph on 16 October 2026. Where the resort publishes a figure of its own, that figure is the one shown.
Piste km per lift km
1.47
Piste km opened by each kilometre of lift line. It measures how sparse the lift network is, not how good it is: a high figure means long runs off few lifts, so more skiing between rides but more traversing and more people funnelled onto each lift; a low one means dense lift service, quick laps and short waits, at the cost of repeating the same runs.

Guide
Grimentz and Zinal are the two village bases of one ski area in the Val d'Anniviers. The Grimentz side (Bendolla) and the Zinal side (Sorebois) were separate areas until a 3.5 km cable car joined them in 2014. Our measurement finds 68.2 km of piste, 29% of it above 2,500 m, with a median piste altitude of 2,374 m.
For beginners
Beginner terrain is real but small. The operator sells a beginner card for CHF 45 a day that works only on the beginner lifts at Grimentz (Bendolla, the school lift and Marenda) and at Zinal (the first section of the Zinal-Sorebois gondola, the school lift and Remointze). skiresort.info lists children's areas at Bendolla and Sorebois, and a Family Park at Zinal. Only 33% of the measured piste can be reached from the base without descending anything harder than an easy piste, and skiresort.info grades 26.5 of 115 km easy.632
For intermediates
Red terrain makes up most of the mountain: skiresort.info grades 58.6 of 115 km intermediate, and 65% of our measured piste has a gradient between 10 and 30%, with a mean of 19%. The graph's longest uninterrupted descent is 10.3 km and drops 1,476 m. The Grimentz side has a high lift at Becs de Bosson and the Col du Pouce chairlift, and the Zinal side has the Combe Durand and Corne de Sorebois lifts.326
For experts and freeriders
skiresort.info grades 29.9 km difficult. The operator's panorama map marks eight Top Run pistes, among them Piste de Lona and Piste du Chamois, and shows a freeride zone, an avalanche training centre, a ski-cross course and snowparks. Valais Tourisme lists the freeride area, the avalanche training centre and a snowpark as part of the Grimentz sector. Strong skiers will find fewer difficult pistes than at the large French or Swiss linked areas, and the 68 km we measure makes the area compact.3712
Snow and aspect
37% of the measured piste faces north, north-east or north-west, and 29% lies above 2,500 m. About 30% lies below 2,000 m, in the lower pistes toward the villages. skiinfo.fr lists 46 km of snowmaking.28
The cable car between the two sides
The link between Grimentz and the Zinal sector is a cable car with a 3,537 m line, a 1,097 m rise from 1,596 m to 2,693 m, a 7.5 minute ride and 125 places, built in 2014. It lands at Espace Weisshorn, from where the Corne de Sorebois chairlift continues up. Each village also has its own gondola: Grimentz-Bendolla on one side and Zinal-Sorebois on the other.910
One ticket, three areas
The 2026/27 day ticket is valid at Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin, and the Magic Pass covers all three. They are separate ski areas with no piste or lift connection to Grimentz-Zinal, and the routing graph for this page contains only the Grimentz and Zinal pistes. St-Luc/Chandolin has its own guide.642
| Skier | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Confident intermediate | excellent | More than half the pistes are red, with a 10.3 km uninterrupted descent and two sectors to move between.32 |
| Magic Pass holder | excellent | Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin are all on the pass, so the three areas cost nothing extra on top of it.4 |
| First-timer | good | Beginner lifts and a CHF 45 beginner card in both villages, plus children's areas at Bendolla, Sorebois and Zinal; the easy-only network is small, so a second week gets repetitive.632 |
| Freerider | good | The operator's map shows a freeride zone and an avalanche training centre, and skiresort.info singles out freeriders for the area.73 |
| Expert on-piste | fair | Around 30 km is graded difficult, spread across a compact 68 km area, so a strong skier will repeat runs within a few days.32 |
| Day trip by public transport | fair | Reaching either village means the bus from Sierre with a change at Vissoie, roughly every 45 minutes.5 |
By car
Grimentz and Zinal are reached by separate roads up the Val d'Anniviers from Sierre via Vissoie, the junction where the two bus routes split. The villages are joined in winter by the cable car rather than by a road you would plan around.
By train
The rail hub is Sierre. From there Postbus route 451 runs to Vissoie, where you change to route 452 for Grimentz or route 453 for Zinal. The bus runs about every 45 minutes, with the first departure from Sierre at 6:15 and the last return from Vissoie at 19:50 on weekdays and 21:20 at weekends.

What skiers say
-
Ski Grimentz-Zinal on weekdays if possible, and especially avoid Easter weekend: a 2026 report found Thursday quiet before the area filled for Good Friday.14
An April 2026 alpinfans.com thread titled "Post-Ostern 2026 | Zinal Flop; St-Luc Top" describes Grimentz-Zinal as the busiest of the three Val d'Anniviers ski areas, though still quiet next to the major Alpine resorts.
-
From Bendolla, ride Col du Pouce once early, continue through Lona 2 to Becs de Bosson, and return to Col du Pouce around lunchtime.1516
alpinfans.com posts from February and March 2026 report a ten-minute Col du Pouce queue at 10:30 and less pressure around noon, with Becs de Bosson good for repeat laps.
-
Once you are high on the Zinal side, use the usually quiet Chamois link to Grimentz if the two Zinal chairs develop five-to-ten-minute queues.17
One February 2025 visitor made exactly this switch; Chamois must be open and is appropriate only for skiers comfortable on a long black run.
-
Treat 16:00 as a hard stop for the high lifts and position yourself for a final Becs de Bosson lap rather than beginning another cross-area transfer.18
A March 2025 report found every lift closing at 16:00 regardless of altitude and caught Becs de Bosson at 15:58 for a long, deserted final descent; verify that day's posted times.
-
Do not plan to drive directly between Zinal and Grimentz in winter: use the lift connection, because the direct road closes and the bus detours through Vissoie.1920
A November 2025 r/askswitzerland thread puts the bus journey at roughly one hour with a change, while the gondola and cable-car journey is faster and open to pedestrians with the appropriate ticket.
-
At Grimentz, drop passengers and equipment at the lift terminal before parking in the two large surface lots just beyond the Coop off Route de Moiry, beneath the connecting cable car.202114
Roadside spaces under the cable are limited; a 2026 visitor reported paying CHF 10 per day through Parkingpay, so check the current tariff.
-
On a sunny weekend, be parked before 10:00; arriving later can mean a space far down the Grimentz lot, although that position is convenient if you finish via Chamois.2216
A January 2024 Liftlines post found the lot effectively full on a sunny Saturday, and a March 2026 alpinfans.com post from a visitor arriving just before 10:00 was already parked well back and noted that Chamois made the location useful at day's end.
-
On busy bluebird days, reconsider the 15:40 bus from Zinal and 15:42 from Grimentz if you need the Vissoie connection to Sierre.17
In February 2025 about twenty passengers could not board the connecting bus; the reporter recommended skiing longer and using the 16:20 departure from Zinal or 16:15 from Grimentz, subject to the current timetable.
-
Use Chamois as a one-way Zinal-to-Grimentz finale rather than trying to lap it.2324
Posters on alpinforum.com (April 2019) and snowHeads praise its north-facing snow, panorama and more than 1,000 vertical metres; the long lower switchback track and the roughly ten-minute walk after the finish draw complaints.
-
On the Zinal side, prioritize the red and black runs served by Combe Durand, with Pylône 6 as a short north-facing mogul alternative.1825
A March 2025 snowHeads trip report found Combe Durand's runs the longest, most sinuous and best-snowed on the Zinal side, and warned snowboarders about a subtle off-camber section shortly after starting the drag.
-
For advanced piste skiing on the Grimentz side, concentrate on Lona supérieure, Les Couloirs and the high Becs de Bosson sector.1816
A March 2025 snowHeads trip report describes mogulled variants and a steep entrance on Lona supérieure, calls Les Couloirs a long direct blast, and finds the high north-easterly Becs de Bosson holds snow better than the lower roads.
-
Use Bendolla for sunny, wide cruising and move to Sorebois when you want steeper walls and more freeride options.26
A March 2018 skipass.com review by a month-long visitor found Bendolla pleasant but repeatedly interrupted by flats, and Sorebois more interesting for advanced skiers.
-
For a proper piste lunch, choose Restaurant BOB on the Grimentz side rather than defaulting to the Zinal mountain café.21
A poster in the snowHeads thread "Magicpass - deadline extended" recommended BOB's hot goat-cheese salad and criticised the Zinal restaurant's pricing; check the current name, menu and opening status, since the thread is older.
-
At Bendolla, order the tarte aux myrtilles if it is available.2716
A 2020/21 alpinforum.com thread and a March 2026 alpinfans.com post both single out the blueberry tart, the latter as the lunch stop before moving to Col du Pouce.
-
Arrive stocked for self-catering and compare equipment-hire prices before the trip rather than assuming resort purchases will be reasonable.28
A March 2019 skipass.com post from a family found only two small supermarkets near the Grimentz lifts, brought most of their food, and judged local ski hire roughly twice comparable French pricing.
-
Do not spend the whole morning sampling Grimentz lift by lift if your one-day plan includes Zinal.22
A first-time Saturday visitor did Bendolla, Col du Pouce and Lona 2 before it was nearly 11:30, then realised properly surveying Grimentz would consume the remaining day.
-
Do not treat the Aigle village run as an ordinary red: inspect conditions and download from Zinal if it is icy or visibility is poor.2927
A February 2021 skipass.com thread and a 2020/21 alpinforum.com thread describe an exceptionally steep lower pitch, full-width catch nets and evenings when the surface became hard enough that experienced riders chose the gondola instead.
-
Do not avoid the drag lifts, because several of the better and quieter runs depend on them.30
A snowHeads thread titled "Sierre" recommends becoming comfortable with the drags; this matters at Lona 2, Becs de Bosson and Combe Durand, and is worth anticipating if you snowboard.
-
Do not follow existing tracks into the north-west Sorebois wildlife-protection zone toward Grimentz.31
A March 2021 skipass.com thread, "Zinal-Grimentz en avril", reports enforcement where the route reaches the path above the far end of the Grimentz car park, and distinguishes terrain above Combe du Chamois as outside the zone; the current official map should decide.
-
When strong wind is forecast, base yourself at Grimentz and check live lift status before committing to Zinal.20
A snowHeads post in the "Val d'Anniviers / Grimentz / Zinal" thread reports a storm in which every Zinal lift closed while three or four Grimentz lifts still operated, and another party drove to Zinal only to find its access lift shut.
-
In flat light or a storm, use the forested Bendolla-to-Grimentz terrain instead of the exposed upper Zinal bowl.32
During a February 2022 storm that closed Zinal, a long-time visitor repeatedly skied the Bendolla-Grimentz forest line because it retained visual definition.
-
On warm spring days, ski sunny Bendolla early and move after lunch to Combe Durand or the high north-easterly Becs de Bosson pistes.18
A March 2025 snowHeads trip report found non-northerly Grimentz slopes slushy after the village passed 10 degrees C, while Becs de Bosson stayed decent and Combe Durand had the best snow on the Zinal side.

Questions
How many kilometres of piste does Grimentz-Zinal have?
Tourism sites quote 115 km for Grimentz-Zinal, but the operator's own pages publish no total. SkiAllDay's routing graph measures 68.2 km of piste in one connected area between about 1,400 and 2,900 m. The gap is large enough that the marketed figure may cover more than the connected Grimentz-Zinal pistes.132
How do Grimentz and Zinal connect on skis?
A 3,537 m cable car links Grimentz to the Zinal sector, rising from 1,596 m to 2,693 m in about 7.5 minutes. It has run since 2014 and joined two ski areas that were previously separate. Both villages also have their own gondola to the pistes.913
How much is a day ski pass at Grimentz-Zinal in 2026/27?
A one-day pass costs CHF 75 for an adult, CHF 64 for a youth born 2002-2010 and CHF 45 for a child born 2011-2020, according to the operator's 2026/27 price list. The same ticket is valid at St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin. A beginner card valid only on the beginner lifts costs CHF 45 for adults.6
Does the Grimentz-Zinal ticket cover St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin?
Yes, the 2026/27 ticket is valid at Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin. The three are separate ski areas without a piste or lift link between them, so a skier on one ticket still travels between them by road. SkiAllDay publishes a separate guide to St-Luc/Chandolin.62
Is Grimentz-Zinal included in the Magic Pass?
Yes. Grimentz-Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin and Vercorin are all listed on the Magic Pass site. The adult price was CHF 576 and the child price CHF 314, guaranteed until 3 November 2026, for a pass valid from 1 May to 30 April.4
When does the Grimentz-Zinal ski season open in 2026/27?
The Bendolla and Sorebois sectors open at weekends from 21 November 2026, and Sorebois opens daily from 5 December 2026. Both sectors run daily from 18 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, with lifts opening at 9:00 and the last ascent at 16:00.33
How do you get to Grimentz or Zinal by public transport?
Take a train to Sierre, then Postbus route 451 to Vissoie and change there to route 452 for Grimentz or route 453 for Zinal. Buses run about every 45 minutes, the first leaving Sierre at 6:15.5
