Routable 3D map
The whole lift and piste network of KitzSki (Kitzbühel / Kirchberg) is routable in the app: difficulty limits, live lift and piste status, alternative ways to the same place, and a 3D view of the terrain.
Open in SkiAllDayThe verdict
KitzSki links Kitzbühel and Kirchberg into a network across Hahnenkamm, Pengelstein, Jochberg and Pass Thurn/Resterhöhe, home to the Hahnenkamm World Cup downhill on the Streif. The operator markets 233 km on one ticket; our own routing graph measures about 160 km of that as one connected piece. The rest, roughly 30 km on Kitzbüheler Horn, Bichlalm and Gaisberg, shares the ticket but needs a bus or train to reach.12345
Goes well for
- Confident intermediate and advanced skiers who want a large connected network with genuine steep terrain: the public Streif-Familienabfahrt, the black Ochsalm run through the trees, and the Zweitausender/Bärenbadkogel sector toward Pass Thurn
- Skiers who want the Hahnenkamm race history and atmosphere and either accept Kitzbühel's prices or base four kilometres away in cheaper Kirchberg, on the same lift network
- Ikon Pass holders, since the pass scans directly at KitzSki's own gates without a separate ticket-office stop
Goes badly for
- Budget or last-minute travellers: the 2026/27 day ticket runs EUR 69.00 to EUR 83.00 depending on the dynamic season band, with no flat low-season rate
- Anyone wanting a single continuous ski area: Kitzbüheler Horn, Bichlalm and Gaisberg sit on the same ticket but are not lift-linked to the Hahnenkamm-Kirchberg-Jochberg network, so reaching them means a bus or train, not a run
- Early and late-season snow reliability: there is no glacier, the ski area's own base sits around 800 m, and snowmaking is markedly thinner on Kitzbüheler Horn and Bichlalm than on the connected core
Key facts
Every card opens. The headline number is the answer; underneath is how it was measured and where it came from.
Elevation 1,200m vertical · 800–2,000 m
| Village | 761 m6 |
|---|---|
| Lowest piste | 800 m2 |
| Highest lift-served point | 2,000 m2 |
| Vertical drop | 1,200 m |
Skiresort.info and the regional tourism board both round the ski area to 800 to 2,000 m. The town of Kitzbühel itself sits lower, at 761 m per its own municipal facts page. The highest labelled point on the operator's current piste map is the Zweitausender summit at 2,004 m, on the Pass Thurn/Resterhöhe side of the connected network; our own routing graph measures the same connected network's range as 768 to 1,992 m, close to the marketed figures. Kitzbüheler Horn, reached separately, tops out at 1,996 m.
Pistes 188km 204 km measured from the network

- Intermediate 66km 35%
- Difficult 20km 11%
Plus 45 km of marked ski routes, which are neither pisted nor patrolled to piste standard.
Marketed vs measuredThe operator markets 233 km on one ticket. Skiresort.info's own measurement splits that into 188 km of groomed piste (102 km easy, 66 km intermediate, 20 km difficult) plus 45 km of ski routes. Our own routing graph, built from OpenStreetMap, measures 204 km of piste across the same ticket, but it is not one connected network. Our measurement finds a single connected piece of about 160 km running from Kitzbühel and Kirchberg through Pengelstein to Jochberg and Pass Thurn/Resterhöhe, plus three smaller, separate lift systems reached by bus or train rather than by piste: Kitzbüheler Horn (24 km measured), Bichlalm (6 km) and Gaisberg (3 km). The operator's own 2020/21 facts sheet draws the same line, splitting its 233 km as 124 km Kitzbühel/Kirchberg/Pengelstein plus 71 km Jochberg/Resterhöhe against 38 km Kitzbüheler Horn/Bichlalm.

SuperSkiCard and Snow Card Tirol both include KitzSki as one of many linked areas across Salzburg and Tyrol on a single season product. A combined KitzSkiWelt Tour day ticket, covering a wider circuit beyond KitzSki's own network, is sold alongside the standard day pass. |
KitzSki prices a single day ticket across three bands rather than one flat rate: a Spar-Saison (economy) day starts the season and returns after 30 March 2027 at EUR 69.00 for an adult; a short Vorteils-Saison band in December and again in March is EUR 76.00; the Premium-Saison from 20 December 2026 to 13 March 2027, the figure shown here, is EUR 83.00. Youth covers those born 2008–2010 and children those born 2011–2020; children born 2021 or later ski free. Prices are from the operator's own Winter 2026/27 list, dated 13 May 2026.

Kitzbühel lies in the Leukental valley in northeastern Tyrol. From Munich, the route runs via the A93 and A12 motorways, about 127 km and 1 hour 45 minutes. From Salzburg, via the A1 and A12, about 81 km and 1 hour 30 minutes. From Innsbruck, via the A12, about 96 km and 1 hour 10 minutes. Parking is at each valley station; Fleckalmbahn and Gaisberg are free, Hahnenkammbahn, Klosterfeld and Hornbahn are paid, and none of the paid stations takes coaches.
The mountain
These figures come from measuring the resort's actual piste and lift network rather than from its brochure. Measured from the SkiAllDay routing graph on 14 September 2026. Where the resort publishes a figure of its own, that figure is the one shown.
Piste km per lift km
1.60
Piste km opened by each kilometre of lift line. It measures how sparse the lift network is, not how good it is: a high figure means long runs off few lifts, so more skiing between rides but more traversing and more people funnelled onto each lift; a low one means dense lift service, quick laps and short waits, at the cost of repeating the same runs.

Guide
Four valley bases feed one connected network, and three more lift systems share the ticket without joining it. Kitzbühel's Hahnenkammbahn and Kirchberg's Fleckalmbahn climb onto Pengelstein, the hinge that continues east to Jochberg's Wagstättbahn and on to Pass Thurn and Resterhöhe. Kitzbüheler Horn, Bichlalm and Gaisberg are separate lift systems reached from the valley by road or rail, not by piste.
One network from four valley bases
The Hahnenkammbahn rises directly from Kitzbühel town, and the Fleckalmbahn does the same from Kirchberg, four kilometres west; both feed onto Pengelstein, where the network continues east through Jochberg's Wagstättbahn to Pass Thurn and Resterhöhe. Our own routing graph finds this the resort's one connected piece, about 160 km of piste reachable without a bus or a return to the valley.13
Kitzbüheler Horn, Bichlalm and Gaisberg sit apart
These three are on the same KitzSki ticket but not lift-linked to the Hahnenkamm-Kirchberg-Jochberg network; reaching them means a bus, train or drive back into town. The operator's own 2020/21 figures already draw this line, splitting its 233 km as 124 km for Kitzbühel/Kirchberg/Pengelstein and 71 km for Jochberg/Resterhöhe against 38 km for Kitzbüheler Horn/Bichlalm, and our own graph finds the same three areas as separate connected components: Kitzbüheler Horn at 24 km, Bichlalm at 6 km and Gaisberg at 3 km measured.73
The Streif, open to the public outside race week
The Streif has been the Hahnenkamm race's downhill course since 1937, starting at 1,665 m and finishing at 805 m over 3,312 m, an average gradient of 27%; its steepest section, the Mausefalle, reaches 85%. Outside the race and its preparation, the course is open to any skier as the Streif-Familienabfahrt, a red-graded line that bypasses the three hardest sections, which are marked separately as an extreme ski route.58
Mostly intermediate, with real black terrain in the trees
Skiresort.info splits the operator's marketed piste, across the whole ticket, as 102 km easy, 66 km intermediate and 20 km difficult. Our own measurement of the full routing graph, which spans the connected core and the three separate areas together, puts the length-weighted average gradient at 19% and finds 46% of piste reachable from a base without leaving an easy run. The black terrain concentrates on the Pass Thurn/Resterhöhe side, around Zweitausender and the Bärenbadkogel sector, and on wooded, ungroomed lines closer to town: the Ochsalm descent runs through trees below the Fleckalmbahn with no snowmaking, so it depends on natural cover.23
Snowmaking is concentrated on the connected core
The operator's 2020/21 figures show snowmaking covering 78 of 124 km at Kitzbühel/Kirchberg/Pengelstein and 52 of 71 km at Jochberg/Resterhöhe, against 14 of 38 km at Kitzbüheler Horn/Bichlalm; the current piste map counts 1,260 snow-guns resort-wide. There is no glacier, and the ski area's own lowest point sits around 800 m, so a run of mild winters leaves the lower valley descents more dependent on machine-made cover than the higher terrain toward Pass Thurn.71
| Skier | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced skier | excellent | The public Streif-Familienabfahrt, the black Ochsalm run through the trees, and the Zweitausender and Bärenbadkogel sector on the Pass Thurn side give real steep and technical terrain, on the mountain that hosts the Hahnenkamm World Cup downhill.52 |
| Confident intermediate | good | 66 km of the marketed network is graded intermediate, and our own measurement across the whole ticket finds a 19% length-weighted average gradient, comfortable mid-mountain territory served by a dense chairlift network from four valley bases.23 |
| Family with mixed abilities | good | Free valley practice lifts sit in most of the base villages, and Kitzbüheler Horn is described in forum reports as a quieter, wider intermediate area worth a dedicated day away from the busier connected network.19 |
| First-timer | fair | Ten free practice lifts sit in the valley bases at Kitzbühel, Aschau, Kirchberg, Reith and Jochberg/Pass Thurn, but the connected network's own blue runs are inconsistently graded: a January 2026 Reddit thread from a visitor on the main mountain found several signed blues, including piste 26a near Fleckalmbahn and piste 2a on Kitzbüheler Horn, steep, narrow or icy enough to feel like red or black.110 |
| Off-piste and ski-route skier | fair | Marked orange ski routes such as Giggling from Steinbergkogel and Schwarzkogel down to Aschau give ungroomed options beyond the piste network, though several require a bus or taxi back from the valley exit rather than a lift.911 |
| Budget skier | poor | The 2026/27 day ticket runs from EUR 69.00 in the Spar-Saison to EUR 83.00 at Premium-Saison peak dates, and the resort's own dynamic pricing has no separate cheap product; forum regulars instead recommend basing in Kirchberg, on the same lift network, for materially cheaper accommodation than Kitzbühel itself.412 |

By train
The Salzburg-Tyrol railway serves Kitzbühel directly, with the Kitzbühel-Hahnenkamm stop sitting right beside the Hahnenkammbahn valley station rather than requiring a transfer into town. From Innsbruck the journey is about 1 hour 10 minutes; from Salzburg and Munich it runs via Wörgl.

What skiers say
-
On holiday mornings, be loading Fleckalmbahn at 08:30 and lap Ochsalm before moving toward Pengelstein.14
A Christmas-week report recorded only a three-minute gondola wait at 08:30, while the Pengelstein piste was already heavily trafficked by 10:00.
-
If approaching from the east, start at Resterhöhe on Pass Thurn at 08:30 and ski west toward Hahnenkamm against the dominant morning flow.14
A February Sunday report found no queues while travelling this direction and almost empty, grippy pistes after 15:00; the driver considered the extra 15 minutes from Bavaria worthwhile.
-
When returning from Pass Thurn toward Kitzbühel, reach Gauxjoch and Talsen before about 15:00.151617
Reports describe the east-to-west return wave producing roughly 10 minutes at Talsen and an estimated 15–30 minutes at Gauxjoch around 15:00–15:30; a 2024 discussion says Talsen remains an afternoon bottleneck.
-
During Hahnenkamm race week, ski the non-race sectors while spectators concentrate around the Streif.181920
Several visitors report surprisingly quiet ordinary pistes, but the Streif closes beforehand for icing, training and racing, and accommodation and town nightlife become exceptionally busy and expensive.
-
For a driving day, use the large Fleckalmbahn car park rather than paying and fighting traffic around Hahnenkammbahn in Kitzbühel.192122
Forum regulars consistently identify Fleck as the free daytime parking option; this is particularly valuable near race week, when driving into Kitzbühel is strongly discouraged.
-
Arrive by train at Kitzbühel Hahnenkamm because the platform is directly beside the Hahnenkammbahn base.2312
Travellers have used it for day trips from Innsbruck and for transfers along the valley, avoiding Kitzbühel's limited parking altogether.
-
In Kirchberg, book beside a ski-bus stop or one of Fleckalmbahn, Maierlbahn or Pengelsteinbahn rather than assuming every central lodging is walk-to-lift.2212
The lift bases sit toward the edges of town; lodging beside a lift can conversely leave you farther from restaurants and shops, although peak-time buses are frequent.
-
Leave a substantial buffer when a valley bus is essential to your return, especially during Christmas and other peak traffic days.24
One December 2024 skier saw a scheduled 13:05 bus fail to appear, caught the 13:35 instead and later encountered roughly 30-minute delays; another reported Kitzbühel traffic from 09:00–12:30 and again after 17:00.
-
For a quiet central start, try Wagstättbahn in Jochberg but arrive by 08:30 if you want a space immediately beside the gondola.14
A Christmas-week skier obtained a gondola-side space at that time, then found no lift queues on the early Wagstätt, Bärenbad and Zweitausender laps.
-
Ski blue 25 Fleck early for one of KitzSki's best long cruising descents into Kirchberg.209
A January 2025 Kitzski forum thread and a January 2024 Reddit thread both single it out as the area's standout cruiser, though its low finish can become glazed, soft or worn later in the day.
-
Use Hieslegg to reach Hochsaukaser and spend several laps there instead of treating piste 55 as another link in a resort traverse.2526
A February 2017 and a March 2026 alpinforum.com trip report both praise Hochsaukaser, and the 2026 report notes that approaching directly from the 3S side would require an unattractive uphill push along the ridge.
-
In spring conditions, lap Bärenbadkogel II pistes 63 and 64 while lower and sunnier slopes soften.2627
A March 2026 alpinforum.com report found this sector still compact and powdery, softening only on its flatter lower section; a December 2017 thread on the same forum also ranks these among the better Pass Thurn-side runs.
-
Give Kitzbüheler Horn its own half- or full-day visit for quieter, wide intermediate pistes rather than squeezing it into an end-to-end main-area safari.911
It is a separate bus or train transfer, but a January 2024 Reddit thread and a snowHeads thread both describe short, comparatively empty runs and recommend the bowl terrain; Hagstein on valley run 3 is the cited food stop when open.
-
Save the black Ochsalm descent through the trees for a day with solid natural coverage.11
A long-time visitor calls it a favourite, but explicitly warns that it has no snowmaking and therefore is not a reliable thin-snow objective.
-
If the public Streif sections are open, ski them first thing rather than saving the trophy run for a warm afternoon.2829
One skier specifically enjoyed it freshly groomed; another trip report abandoned it when warm weather produced deep slush, large moguls and bad falls by competent skiers.
-
Search Kirchberg before Kitzbühel for accommodation because it accesses the same main lift network at materially lower prices.2912
A snowHeads trip report paid roughly half the Kitzbühel quotes for a Kirchberg apartment, and a September 2025 Reddit thread still recommends Kirchberg as the budget base.
-
Ikon holders can normally scan the physical Ikon pass directly at KitzSki gates and skip the ticket office.2330
A January 2024 and an April 2025 Reddit thread both say the card works with the local RFID readers, saving a base-area queue.
-
Day-trippers with luggage can use the inexpensive lockers inside Intersport at the Hahnenkammbahn station.31
A 2025 visitor reported a price of €2 per day, useful because conventional luggage storage near the lift was difficult to identify.
-
For a straightforward, reasonably priced mountain lunch on the eastern side, try Moseralm at Resterhöhe.14
A March 2026 report praised its fast, friendly service, fair pricing and food quality.
-
Eat at Sonnleit Stadl only outside the main lunch rush if preserving ski time matters.27
A local-language recommendation calls the food excellent but warns that heavy demand can produce waits of up to an hour.
-
Price-sensitive skiers should check the menu before committing to Melkalm.24
A December 2024 report paid €5.50 for Skiwasser and €13.50 for a festive soup with three dumplings, explicitly noting the rise in prices.
-
Do not assume an Ikon-valid KitzSki day includes neighbouring SkiWelt or its Westendorf lifts.2230
The areas nearly meet and buses link Pengelstein I with Ki-West, but September 2025 and April 2025 Reddit threads both stress that ordinary Ikon access stops at KitzSki; a broader regional pass or add-on is required for SkiWelt.
-
Do not read the KitzSki map as one continuously skiable domain because Kitzbüheler Horn and Bichlalm require a bus or train from the connected main area.30
The main network runs from Kirchberg and Kitzbühel through Jochberg to Resterhöhe, while Horn and the single-chair Bichlalm sector have separate bases.
-
Do not choose a route solely by its blue colour, especially 26a near Fleckalmbahn, narrow Horn piste 2a or piste 30.1032
Recent visitors found 26a steep and icy, 2a unnerving because of its narrowness and exposure, and a section of 30 black-like; other commenters dispute the grading criticism and attribute much of the difficulty to warm weather, artificial snow and afternoon wear.
-
Snowboarders should not plan an entire day around end-to-end mileage without identifying the flat links first.3334
A January 2024 Reddit thread complains about pushing on the main network, while an older snowHeads thread recommends the separate Horn for more open pistes and fewer uphill sections.
-
Do not expect the public Streif-Familienabfahrt to reproduce the World Cup course or its Mausefalle.3536
The family route bypasses the impossible race sections, and the race piste itself is commonly closed well before Hahnenkamm week for preparation and training.
-
In early season, cross the 3S toward Resterhöhe and Zweitausender rather than committing to low valley descents around Kitzbühel.37
A May 2023 Reddit thread identifies the eastern sector as higher and more reliable, while the lower halves of valley runs can be narrow ribbons of machine-made snow.
-
Treat a shoulder-season KitzSki trip as a conditions-led booking rather than a snow-sure advance commitment.3029
The resort is low, and experienced visitors recommend checking actual openings and forecasts close to departure; Christmas can work, but poor winters leave lower pistes thin or entirely artificial.
-
When lower Fleck-side blues become crusty and bumped, move to the higher G4–G6 sector for more consistent groomed snow.10
A skier reporting directly from the resort contrasted those higher cruisers with deteriorating afternoon conditions on 26a and other low pistes.
-
Choose aspect according to the freeze-thaw cycle: north-facing runs preserve snow longer in sustained warmth, but sunny pistes may be preferable when shaded runs remain frozen and icy.2023
A January 2025 alpinforum.com thread favours north-facing Steinbergkogel, Brunn and Pengelstein terrain during warm periods, while a January 2024 Reddit visitor found direct sun necessary to soften afternoon ice.
-
On a foggy day, test the lower Fleck and Maierl descents and the Trattenbachgraben before abandoning skiing for poor visibility.14
In one March 2026 whiteout, those lower runs sat beneath some of the fog and Trattenbachgraben repeatedly offered better visibility, while Pengelstein II and upper Hanglalm were blind.
-
Ski orange route 56 Schwarzkogel to Aschau only after confirming snow and your bus or taxi exit.119
It is an ungroomed itinerary with many powder-day side variants but no lift at the bottom; visitors report taxis waiting in Aschau and sharing one to reduce the fare.
-
Use route 33 Giggling from Steinbergkogel as a long descent rather than another lift lap, but expect a bus transfer back to the next gondola.9
A detailed resort thread says it is occasionally groomed, yet it remains an orange ski route and should be planned as a valley exit.
-
For reliable advanced laps, investigate the terrain directly beneath Zweitausender rather than merely passing through toward Panorama.11
The chair serves an orange route, a black piste and a steep, often lumpy red, and a January 2022 snowHeads thread reports that this high sector usually keeps comparatively good snow.
-
Use the Greissalm bowl for a concentrated mix of blacks and ski routes when the main groomers feel tame.11
A repeat visitor notes warning signs about steep terrain but considers the marked options less extreme than the signage may suggest; conditions and avalanche status still determine whether they are sensible.

Nearby and comparable
- SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental 15 km

Questions
How many piste kilometers does KitzSki have?
The operator markets 233 km on one ticket. Skiresort.info's own measurement splits that as 188 km of groomed piste (102 km easy, 66 km intermediate, 20 km difficult) plus 45 km of ski routes. Our own routing graph measures 204 km across the same ticket, of which about 160 km forms one connected network; the rest is on separate, smaller lift systems.23
Is KitzSki one connected ski area?
Mostly, but not entirely. Kitzbühel, Kirchberg, Jochberg and Pass Thurn/Resterhöhe form one lift-linked network of about 160 km measured. Kitzbüheler Horn, Bichlalm and Gaisberg are on the same ticket but are separate lift systems, each reached from the valley by bus, train or a short drive rather than by skiing across.37
What is the Streif, and can ordinary skiers ski it?
The Streif is the downhill course used for the Hahnenkamm World Cup race since 1937, starting at 1,665 m and dropping to 805 m over 3,312 m, with an average gradient of 27% and a steepest pitch of 85% at the Mausefalle. Outside race week and its preparation, it is open to any skier as the Streif-Familienabfahrt, a red-graded route that bypasses the three hardest sections.5
How much does a KitzSki day pass cost?
The 2026/27 adult day ticket is priced dynamically in three bands: EUR 69.00 in the Spar-Saison at the start and end of the season, EUR 76.00 in short Vorteils-Saison windows either side of Christmas and in March, and EUR 83.00 in the Premium-Saison from 20 December 2026 to 13 March 2027. Children born 2011-2020 pay roughly half; children born 2021 or later ski free.4
Is KitzSki good for beginners?
It has ten free practice lifts spread across the valley base villages, but the graded blue runs on the main connected network are not consistently gentle: visitors report some signed blues, including piste 26a near the Fleckalmbahn and piste 2a on Kitzbüheler Horn, feeling as steep or narrow as a red.
